Wentii
Alocasia spp.
Alocasia
Light Details
Keep in a bright room with lots of ambient light. Best placement is near an east window or a few feet back from a south/west window behind a sheer curtain. Rotate every 1 to 2 weeks for even growth and avoid harsh midday sun unless the plant is known to take more light.
Watering Details
Keep lightly and evenly moist during active growth, allowing only the top inch to dry. Do not let the pot stay swampy. Check the potting mix before watering. In most homes this means watering when the top 1 to 2 inches feel dry, then watering thoroughly until excess drains out. Empty cachepots and saucers so roots are not left sitting in water.
Humidity Details
Aim for 60%+ humidity if possible. A humidifier, cabinet, or grouping with other plants helps more than occasional misting. Keep the plant away from heater vents and cold drafts.
Soil Details
Use a chunky aroid mix: potting soil or coco base plus orchid bark, perlite/pumice, and a little charcoal if desired. This keeps oxygen around the roots while still holding enough moisture.
Temperature
Warmth matters: 68 to 85°F is ideal, and cold soil quickly causes setbacks.
Feeding Details
Feed every 2 to 4 weeks in the growing season and keep growth active with warmth and humidity.
Grooming / Training
Remove old leaves once they yellow fully. Watch for dormancy; some plants may pause or shed leaves if light and warmth drop.
Repotting
Repot in spring if roots fill the pot or the mix has compacted.
Common Issues
Drooping with wet soil can signal root stress; brown edges usually mean low humidity or inconsistent watering. Spider mites are a common problem in dry air.
Seasonal Notes
In cooler months, growth may slow dramatically and watering must be reduced to match.
What Not To Do
Do not expose it to cold windowsills or drafts.
Safety Details
Toxic to Pets/Humans. Keep out of reach of pets. Avoid ingestion and wash hands after handling if sap or tissue is irritating.
