Light Details

Give the brightest spot you have. A south or west window with several hours of direct sun is ideal. If moving from lower light, acclimate over 7 to 10 days so foliage does not scorch.

Watering Details

Soak thoroughly, then wait until the mix is fully dry before watering again. In winter, some may need only occasional water. Water deeply, then allow the mix to dry almost completely or completely before watering again. Dry periods are part of the care routine, so do not top off small amounts of water while the root ball is still damp.

Humidity Details

Normal indoor humidity is fine. Good airflow matters more than extra humidity, and overly damp stagnant air can create problems.

Soil Details

Use a fast-draining mix with lots of mineral grit or perlite. Terracotta pots and drainage holes are helpful because they let the root zone dry quickly.

Temperature

Warm active-season temperatures are fine; many tolerate cooler winters if kept dry. Protect from frost.

Feeding Details

Feed lightly once or twice during active growth and keep roots sharply drained.

Grooming / Training

Handle with care and use gloves or folded paper for spiny forms. No routine pruning is needed beyond removing damaged sections.

Repotting

Repot every 2 to 3 years into a pot with a drainage hole; wait a few days after repotting before watering.

Common Issues

Soft, translucent tissue means rot from too much moisture. Leaning or stretching means it needs much stronger light.

Seasonal Notes

Water most in spring and summer; reduce sharply in winter.

What Not To Do

Do not use moisture-retentive soil or decorative pots without drainage.

Safety Details

Generally Non-Toxic. This entry is marked pet safe in your source file.
